Dry needling is generally combined with our other therapy services, and is used for fast effective pain relief through the use of very fine needles. These needles are placed within the myofascial trigger points.
A myofascial trigger point is a focus of small muscle fibre contraction knots, which are related to the production and maintenance of the pain cycle. They often occur as a result of neuromuscular dysfunction and in areas of musculoskeletal stress.
Is dry needling the same as Acupuncture?
Dry needling is sometimes known as intramuscular stimulation, the insertion of delicate fine needles that has been found to be as effective as an injection of medicine for the relief of pain in muscles, ligaments and tendons. Acupuncture and dry needling techniques are similar, but their objective, rationale and use in treatment are different.
